Film is Dead, Long Live Digital Cameras

We were speaking with a professional photographer last month. A man who makes his living taking pictures and selling them to magazines and newspapers ranging from National Geographic to his hometown daily newspaper.

He told me something shocking. In two years you will no longer be able to buy film or find any place to process old fashioned film and make prints from negatives. The digital camera photography revolution has arrived and film is going the way of the dodo and button hook.
Well, I just sold my old Nikon 35mm SLR, and was lucky, I think, to get $130 for the body, two zoom lenses and Nikon flash unit.

I have two FujiFilm digital cameras, and I just bought an Olympus Sp-510UZ, which I like much better than the Fuji Finepix E550. It is amazing how much the technology changes so fast.

One other quick tip. If you are going to want to do more than just have little low resolution snapshots, then always shoot in RAW mode rather than JPG. This gives you much more latitude when you go to adjust the picture in PhotoShop. Of course, shooting RAW takes up much more memory, but memory cards are much cheaper now two. Look on eBay and see them selling 2 megabyte memory cards for less than $20 these days.

If you are looking to buy a new digital camera for a good price, I recommend you check out the Digital Camera Prices Blog.
